Betagro, a prominent Thai meat processing company, is expanding its alternative protein business, with plans to enter the Japanese market. During a TJRI session, Betagro’s Commercial Manager, Mr. Voraran Thepaisitpong, outlined the company’s history and future strategies. Founded in 1967, Betagro evolved from animal feed production to a diversified business, exporting to 34 countries, including Japan, where it supplies chicken-based products. TJRI stands for the Thailand-Japan Research Institute (or Thai-Japanese Investment Research Institute). It is a platform designed to fosoroter business collaboration between Thai and Japanese companies, facilitating B2B networking, co-creation, and investment opportunities.
In 2022, Betagro launched its plant-based protein brand, Meatly, as part of its move into the alternative protein market. With global demand for sustainable proteins on the rise, Betagro aims to make plant-based meats a mainstream choice. The company envisions that by 2040, 60% of the world’s meat consumers will be eating alternative proteins.
Betagro provides Meatly products in bulk, retail, and through OEM partnerships. It is also exploring insect-based proteins, aiming to become the second-largest brand in the alternative protein industry.
